The proposals recently adopted by the Southern Baptists to address sexual abuse and misconduct (SAM) are certainly a move in the right direction. But until practical controls and activities are built into the proposals, in a systematic framework that follows the best risk management practices which every congregation, including the smallest, can use, they will remain no more than a move in the right direction.
It is in the practical details where SAM risk is well managed – where SAM is prevented, the Church is protected, and everyone is convinced the Southern Baptists are handling SAM well.
